BIWEEKLY MEMBER CALLS GET UPDATED We are excited to continue the journey of democratization by enhancing our engagement and communication model with our members – our key to the success of CESMII. To that end, we are recasting the biweekly member calls to a broader, more national membership format to allow members to hear more perspectives and have follow up conversations with more members.   We are going to start the transition to these monthly National Membership calls starting April 14/15 by hosting two calls, one for the western half of the country and the other for the eastern half. Each of these meetings will have focused agendas respecting the time taken by our members away from their work.   Expect further communications the week of April 6 th from CESMII with specific meeting times and logistics.

CESMII RECOGNIZED BY SME AND SMART MANUFACTURING MAGAZINE CESMII CEO John Dyck has been recognized by SME as one of “30 Leaders Transforming Manufacturing” in their April 2020 edition of Smart Manufacturing magazine . CESMII ADDS SMIC OPERATIONS MANAGER We are excited to introduce Mr. Shekhar Chandrashekhar to our Staff as SMIC Operations Manager, effective April 1, 2020.   Shekhar joins CESMII from his previous role as Smart Manufacturing Practice Lead at CMTC, where he partnered with the nationwide network of innovation institutes and industry 4.0 solution providers to assist small and mid-sized manufacturers in digital transformation. He led clients in crafting strategies and integrating the right end-to-end technology to get the right information at the right time in the right form to the right people throughout the value chain to enable smart decisions.   Shekhar is passionate about driving change at the intersection of business, technology, and culture. He is also a people-oriented leader with the capacity to engage and develop high-performing teams that work together to realize unprecedented—verifiable and repeatable—results.   Welcome to the team, Shekhar!

HPC FOR ENERGY INNOVATION SOLICITATION The DOE has announced a special solicitation for Manufacturing USA institutes, AMO funded R&D consortia and their member companies in  High Performance Computing for Manufacturing .  The  HPC4Mfg Program  is designed to spur the use of National Laboratory supercomputing resources and expertise to advance innovation in energy-efficient manufacturing and new materials that will enable advanced energy technologies. Projects must demonstrate potential impact to energy efficiency in manufacturing with a potential for broad national impact.   Concept papers should be submitted to HPC4Mfg by 5:00 p.m. (PT) on April 21, 2020 and there is an Information Webinar on April 2, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. (PT).  Please click below to visit the HPC4Mfg website for more details about this solicitation, areas of interest, project examples, and the overall program! RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE RECOGNIZED BY WHITE HOUSE In a briefing from the White House, President Trump acknowledged the “tremendous help” from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the other members of the new COVID-19 High Performance Computing Consortium in the effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more about CESMII-member RPI and AiMOS, one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world, and how they are supporting research related to COVID-19.

GOODWILL SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA & LESSONS LEARNED IN MANUFACTURING WITH COVID-19 Tracy DiFilippis of Goodwill Southern California was set to emcee CESMII’s 2020 Annual Meeting, but she didn’t get the chance. She and her team are still bringing value to us all as they have put together a list of valuable “Lessons Learned in Manufacturing with COVID-19”. TIPS ON SETTING UP YOUR HOME OFFICE With so many of us working remotely, the workplace looks dramatically different right now. This shift has left many with questions about how to best incorporate ergonomic practices into our home office.  Sandalwood Engineering & Ergonomics is providing some key tips to setup your home workstation to decrease discomfort and increase productivity, as well as short, one-on-one telephone consultations.
