Major standardization associations and initiatives partner to create the best of breed system architecture to support the upcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP) by combining the best aspects of the Asset Administration Shell and OPC UA.
CESMII announced a collaboration with leading industry organizations—including Labs Network Industrie 4.0 (LNI 4.0), the Digital Twin Consortium, ECLASS e.V., the Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA), the OPC Foundation (OPCF), VDMA, and ZVEI—to develop an advanced system architecture for the forthcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP). This initiative aims to integrate the strengths of the Asset Administration Shell, OPC UA, and related technologies. By leveraging CESMII’s Smart Manufacturing Profiles, modeled with OPC UA, and combining them with the semantics of the Asset Administration Shell and ECLASS, the collaboration seeks to create robust, open, and resilient architectures for manufacturers. This effort is expected to enhance real-time supply chain data exchange and support the adoption of DPP technology ahead of the European Commission’s 2027 deadline.

AWS intends to work with CESMII on driving smart manufacturing solution patterns with their partners. Through CESMII, AWS can gain insights into the evolving needs and challenges of smart manufacturing, enabling them to tailor our services and solutions to meet the specific requirements of this rapidly growing industry. AWS intends to leverage CESMII’s network of industry partners, academic institutions, and government agencies to foster innovation, expand its reach, and solidify its position as a leading provider of smart manufacturing solutions. They will also leverage CESMII’s partnership with USCAR where the goal is to build a Smart Manufacturing Roadmap for the automotive industry. The focus of the roadmap is on flexible and agile processes and supply chains, interoperability based on standardized, open interfaces, and developing a smart manufacturing mindset. This is well aligned with AWS’ goal of building scalable smart manufacturing reference architectures and solutions. Their goal is to use
these learnings to influence how they build new smart manufacturing solutions with their partners.
