Edge to Cloud Data Transfers for Industrial Applications, by Ectron

When it comes to integrating your plant data to cloud analytics, you’ll  want a solution, not a list of components.  That is one market Ectron is addressing with htheir Server Class Computer, ECT-MAN.

The ECT-MAN is a multipurpose ruggedized industrial server class 6 core Xeon based computer that can be deployed on the factory floor or in outside junction boxes, as a mobile computer in ambulances first responder vehicles or other areas.  Rugged MIL versions can be made available based on volume and applications. It works at 20V to 30V (24V Industrial) supplies.

Ectron Corporation, a CESMII member, has released the second computer in its line of “edge,” computers.  The ECT-MAN (Server Class Computer ECT-MAN – Ectron) is a server class edge computer that has built in AI/ML co-processors that allow one to run multiple neural nets and algorithms on the edge.  The computer also comes with multiple ethernet ports, WiFi and optional LTE/4G connectivity to the backhaul with GPS to implement the OT-IT bridges and gateway functionality.  The computer can be used stand alone or as part of Ectron’s SmartEYE PaaS solution (SmartEYE – Ectron).

SmartEYE works with Azure in a plug and play fashion.  As part of a CESMII project to develop a “smart connector.” Ectron computers ECT-ECI (Edge Computer ECT-ECI – Ectron) and ECT-MAN will have a smart connector in its software stack, to enable them to connect with or without SmartEYE to the CESMII SMIP (Smart Manufacturing Innovation Platform Technology – SM Innovation Platform – CESMII – The Smart Manufacturing Institute).  Ectron is working on several CESMII/DoE funded projects where this connectivity is being tested with the CESMII SMIP in the field.  The smart connector on the Ectron edge computers allows plug and play connectivity from SmartEYE to the CESMII SMIP or to Microsoft Azure.

Press Release – ECT-MAN with Microsoft Azure Support

For Release 9 am June 21 2021

Ectron collaborates with Microsoft to accelerate Internet of Things solutions with the release of its server class edge-computer.

Verified hardware and software enhance interoperability and allow faster time to production.

Server Class EdgeSan Diego, CA, June 21 2021 – Ectron, a “First Mile IIoT Solution” provider, announced that its server-class edge-computer has joined Microsoft’s Azure Certified for IoT program. Participation in the Azure Certified for IoT program ensures that hardware and software has been pre-tested and verified to work with Microsoft Azure IoT services. Customers who utilize devices and platforms from the Certified for IoT hardware ecosystem can get their IoT solutions up and running quickly and realize new Efficiencies and business transformation.

Ectron Corporation, based in San Diego, Calif., provides a PaaS (Platform as a Service), Edge computers, ruggedized signal conditioners, amplifiers, and thermocouple calibrators. Ectron’s Azure IoT certified family of ECT-MAN, server-class edge computer (Server Class Computer ECT-MAN – Ectron) enables customers to deploy Ectron’s plug-and-play solution for IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) and provides edge and cloud analytics enabled by Microsoft Azure.

“Microsoft’s Azure Certified for IoT program validates our ability to jumpstart customers’ IoT projects with pre-tested device and operating system combinations,” said Gautam Kavipurapu, Ectron’s COO and VP of engineering. “Decreasing the usual customization and work required for compatibility helps customers get started quickly on their IoT solution.”

“We welcome Ectron’s server-class edge-computer to Microsoft’s Azure Certified for IoT ecosystem that extends our promise to bring IoT to business scale, by offering interoperable
devices and solutions from leading technology companies around the world,” said Michael Kuptz, General Manager Americas, IoT and Mixed Reality Sales, Microsoft.  “With trusted offerings and verified partners, Microsoft Azure Certified for IoT provides opportunities for customers, across industries, to realize digital transformation.”

IoT projects are complex and take a long time to implement. Customers find that choosing and connecting the right set of devices, assets, or sensors to the cloud can be time-consuming. To jumpstart their IoT projects with confidence, customers are looking for certified devices and platforms that are tested for readiness, compatibility, and usability with Microsoft Azure IoT services. By choosing a partner from the Microsoft Azure Certified for IoT program, customers can save time and effort on project specs and RFP processes by knowing what devices and offerings will work with Azure IoT services in advance.
