SMART MANUFACTURING INNOVATION CENTER AT
PURDUE UNIVERSITY
About
The SMIC is a joint effort between Microsoft, Purdue University, West Virginia University (WVU), and University of North Florida (UNF) as primary partners, collaborating with regional NIST/MEP programs to increase impact. The SMIC’s objective is to democratize a portfolio of AI/ML solutions to help all industries and SMMs achieve new levels of efficiency, productivity, quality, performance, and build resiliency in their supply chain networks.
The SMIC team will develop AI/ML powered digital twin models that are integrated with the CESMII’s SM Innovation Platform (SMIP). These digital twin models represent manufacturing assets and processes across the manufacturing lifecycle of smart foundry, digital supply networks, and discrete machining operations at Purdue, WVU, and UNF respectively. They will showcase how AI/ML solutions can be used to capture insights enabling manufacturers and suppliers/supply chains to improve their decision-making, predict challenges, mitigate issues, improve efficiency, and optimize the orchestration of manufacturing operations.

“The Purdue SMIC is a joint effort between Microsoft, West Virginia University (WVU), and University of North Florida (UNF) to democratize and facilitate AI adoption in manufacturing at scale, and to bring operational, technological, and economic impact across a wide range of manufacturing industries. With less than 6% of data generated currently being used, AI offers manufacturers the opportunity to capture insights from the data to facilitate data driven processes and operations to achieve new levels of efficiency, productivity, precision, and performance across the manufacturing lifecycle.”
