SMART MANUFACTURING INNOVATION CENTER AT
CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY
About
The Case Western Reserve University center is focused on helping small- and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) adopt “smart manufacturing” technologies.
The center is part of Case Western’s Institute for Smart, Secure and Connected Systems (ISSACS). In recognition of CWRU’s strong expertise in Smart Manufacturing combined with outstanding location industry partnerships, the US Department of Energy and CESMII selected ISSACS to lead a Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center (SMIC) in Cleveland, Ohio.

Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Reliability Center: Advanced manufacturing (e.g. deformation processing, extrusion, forming, etc.) and mechanical characterization (e.g. mechanical testing, reliability testing, fatigue, etc.) expertise for medical, industrial, legal, outside university, and government laboratory communities.
Swagelok Center for Surface Analysis of Materials: Provides expert staff and specialized analytical equipment to solve materials characterization challenges encountered in education, research and industry.
“Part of the goals overall for CESMII, the DOE institute that we’re receiving funding from, is to drive adoption of smart manufacturing or Industry 4.0, whatever you want to call it, across the continuum of companies and manufacturers from OEMs to SMMs. We know many of them are not as far along with their Industry 4.0 adoption as we would like to see from a regional or national competitive standpoint.”
